180 Degrees Consulting UQ

Free consulting for non-profits and social enterprises, done by UQ students. I am treasurer and a consulting director, and I built its website and finance portal.

Problem

Non-profits and social enterprises often need strategy or financial help they cannot pay a consultancy for. 180 Degrees Consulting is a global student network that does that work for free. The UQ branch puts teams of University of Queensland students on real client problems, and the students get the experience in return.

What I did

I have been treasurer and a consulting director since February 2024.

  • I led two pro bono engagements for not-for-profit clients at the same time: 16 consultants and two team leaders.
  • I have overseen five project teams across three semesters, reviewing their analysis and keeping recommendations tied to what each client needed.
  • I manage the finances of a 300-member organisation and sourced three new client engagements.
  • I built 180dcuq.com in Next.js: pages for clients, sponsors and students, and enquiry and recruitment forms that send email through Resend.
  • I built the branch's internal finance portal. Members submit purchase and reimbursement requests, treasurers approve and pay them, and the portal tracks budgets, the bank feed and event grants from application to acquittal.

Decisions

  • Check every claim before it goes live. Anything on the website I could not source from the branch's own client and sponsorship packs went on a checklist for the exec to confirm.
  • Copy lives in content files. Components hold no wording, so the next committee can change the site without reading code.
  • Enquiries go to the shared inbox. The site sends from its own domain and delivers to the branch's address, not to whoever is on the committee that year.

Evidence

The finance portal is internal, so it has no public link.
